Meet our Leadership Team
Jerry has been married to his college sweetheart, Janet, for 51 years. They have two daughters, Amy and Steffany, and five grandchildren. Jerry graduated from Denver Seminary (Master of Divinity, 1967) and Covenant Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry 1996). He has served churches in California and Oregon and most recently pastored Christ Community Church in Simpsonville for 21 years before retiring in May, 2011. Jerry and Janet are members of Mitchell Rd. Presbyterian Church where they serve in various ministries. Jerry and Janet enjoy working out at the Y and traveling, having gone to Ireland, England, Italy and have a trip planned for Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in July.
Scott grew up in Greenville, was schooled locally, and is now a CPA. Sushi for lunch and a strong bike ride up Paris mountain in his off hours help make a good day better. Who knew accountants weren't just about numbers? Though a committed and hard worker, if he had his druthers (and could do so in good conscience), he'd spend every weekend with his wife, Heather, and three kids split between the beach and backpacking in the mountains.
Jimmy moved to the Upstate in 2005 along with his family and has been worshiping with Redeemer since that time. He has been working in the home building industry in a variety of capacities and now works as a consultant to home builders. Jimmy loves all things active and outdoors, from hiking and mountain biking to golf or frisbee golf. Though, if he had his druthers, he would just as soon sit on the back porch with his bride, a cup of afternoon french press, and a good book. Jimmy and Judy Kay have 6 children and a mutt and are always looking for the next adventure.
Henry and his wife Diane were married after meeting at Furman University. For many years, they lived in the suburban Washington D.C. area, where Henry worked as a civilian mechanical engineer at the U.S. Navy’s Ship Research and Development Center. Following their return to Travelers Rest, they became active members of Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Now retired, Henry can be found walking around the lake at Furman or up and down the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Otherwise, he spends his time listening to many different kinds of music, studying a variety of subjects, and writing articles for a Christian personal finance blog.
Interim Director of Youth Ministry
Caleb is a graduate of North Greenville University and a student at Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He began attending Redeemer as a freshman in college and has been involved ever since. Newly married, he and his lovely wife Lauryn are looking forward to a life of ministry together. Caleb enjoys pretentious movies, British comedy, anything written by G. K. Chesterton, writing the first two sentences of numerous book ideas, and uproarious theological discussions with friends. If he had his druthers, he would go back in time to chat in a dim British pub with the Inklings.
Have trouble understanding Twitter, Instagram, Facebook? Not Heather. She is our social media specialist, helping communicate the goings-on of Redeemer to the members and the world at large. Married to Scott and mother to 3M's (Mikey, Maddox, and McKenna), the carpool line becomes her office while she multi-tasks. Some know her by "Coach Karr," as she doubles as our Redeemer co-ed softball captain.
Children’s Ministry Director
Julie is married to Casey and they have six children: Maggie, Caleb, Bennett, Weston, Graham and Sullivan. They live up the mountain in northern Travelers Rest and have been at Redeemer for 15 years. Julie spends her days enjoying her family, but when she has free time she also loves gardening, baking and running.
Interim Director of Music Ministry
Daniel Sarkela is a classical guitarist currently studying music at Furman University. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Daniel moved to Greenville in 2016. When he isn’t playing guitar, you can probably find him enjoying a latte in a local coffee shop.
Raised a northern girl from Pennsylvania, Robin moved to South Carolina five years ago. Smart move! She and her husband, Matt, have two young children who all enjoy being outdoors and enjoying all things earthy. They are frequently drawn to the clear, clean mountain lakes and streams of our region for their getaways. We are thrilled to have her as a part of our Redeemer staff and team.
